Circum-Chisel

8mm film, projector, chair, metal rods, plastic reels, dry wall, stool
2004

Found footage of a 1960s striptease was mechanically looped and threaded through drywall cut-outs and suspended between a chair and a stool on opposite sides of a wall. As the film played, it scraped along the bottom edge of the cut-out, slowly deteriorating both the film emulsion and the raw drywall. Over the course of several hours, the film projection disintegrated from discernible imagery to vertical streaks to a white rectangle.
